Two of my colleagues here in Latin America, one a water resource management specialist and the other an authority on agroforestry and climate change, will deliver a presentation at the 2012 SCAA Expo on Saturday on coffee and water resource management at origin. The presentation, which fills a persistent gap in the SCAA lecture lineup, will focus on ways we have helped smallholder farmers to adopt water-efficient technologies to reduce water use in the wet-milling process, and to upgrade their wastewater management practices to protect local water resources. Beyond these two important contributions, the presentation will explore more holistically the connection between sustainable coffee agroforestry and the water resources on which coffee farmers and their neighbors depend. It will also feature two short documentaries on our work with coffee and water in Central America.
